Manny Pacquiao prefers basketball to boxing, says Roach

Pacquiao might be spoken about at present as one of the greatest boxers ever, yet Roach revealed to me: “Deep down, Manny prefers basketball to boxing. It’s his favourite sport, more so than boxing. He did an advert with Kobe Bryant, but he doesn’t like watching the LA Lakers. He likes to play basketball rather than watch it.” “He gets to play basketball up to four weeks before a fight; and he wants to play every day. It makes me nervous. He puts it all in when he plays. He could so easily break a finger or turn an ankle. But he loves it so much that if I told him not to play – he’d do it anyway behind my back.”

“So I work out a deal with him, and we agree that he can play basketball up to a month before a fight. Then his word is good. No one can tell Manny P what to do anymore, but you can negotiate with him.”
